Meet Paddy

A Living Legend...forged in the fires of the African sun!

Hi, My name is Paddy, the man behind PKP.

Allow me to share a bit of history...

I started boogie boarding in the mid ‘70s and shortly after that discovered kneeboarding, so I have been on my knees for approx. 50 years !!!

Kneeboarding has always been my passion and hopefully will be, for as long as I have 2 knees. My first board was a flat board with side rails…. and hence the first pad was born. I used an old camping mattress, cut it down and stuck it to my board.

Kneeboarding has progressed over the years worldwide and has now become more popular with all age groups and recognized as a form of surfing. Kneeboarders have World Titles that are held every 2 years, with the most recent super successful one held in J-Bay, South Africa, in 2024.

There were a few suppliers of CNC pads around the world but none in Africa, and so we had to take what we could get our hands on. The local manufacturers were not really interested in the ‘legless’ tribe, as we are a relatively small part of the surfing world.

During the covid lockdown I was bored, and came up with the concept of redesigning, remodeling and manufacturing a kneeboard pad, and since I had already spent half a century on my knees, I knew instinctively what was necessary to achieve the best performing product for me and my fellow kneeboarders. There was a lot to consider and perfect - density, shape, thickness, pattern, traction, adhesives, colour, branding, etc.

After a few trials we had what i considered to be a solid prototype, our PKP v1, and the game was on!

The pads proved to be popular, and it was in the early days that Jason Bulmer from Australia contacted me as an ultra keen kneeboarder himself, becoming our Agent in Australia.

Today, we supply pads worldwide into Africa, UK, France, Brasil, Portugal, California, Mauritius, New Zealand and Australia.

A moulded pad was always in the back of my mind, being in the injection moulded business day-to-day, but for me, it was just too expensive.

With our initial success, I have now taken the financial leap to develop our new moulded PKP deck grip pad, v2, building on what works, but also adding the many complex characteristics we wanted out of a premium moulded pad. It is indeed a pleasure to now have it available to discerning knee-boarders the world over.

The first production run will be limited, so get your order in.

A big Thank You! for supporting a small business, passionate about kneeboarding.

Paddy.
